HemoCue DM Hemoglobin Module
Interfaced to RALS®-Plus

Charlottesville, VASeptember 4, 2003 – Medical Automation Systems, Inc. (MAS; Charlottesville, VA) announces the addition of HemoCue’s DM Hemoglobin device to its RALS-Plus POC module menu.

Available in the latest RALS-Plus release (version 1.2.1), this bi-directional interface provides total configuration and management of HemoCue’s hemoglobin device using a single data management system.  This includes managing operator certifications and comments and accessing a host of functions including QC reports and patient data, Levey-Jennings and Linearity reports through the RALS-Plus interface.

HemoCue Hemoglobin devices provide an opportunity for quick, simple and reliable quantitative Hemoglobin results with the same performance as a large hematology analyzer. The dual wavelength photometers correct for lipemia, leucocytosis and other sources of turbidity. Any blood source (capillary, venous or arterial) can be used. Transfusion decisions, EPO dosing and anemia screenings can be appropriately performed immediately and at the point of care. The unbreakable, disposable cuvette collects the exact amount of blood and mixes the sample with the reagents automatically. The cuvette is placed into the portable photometer. Results appear on the display screen in less than a minute.

HemoCue (www.hemocue.com)  develops, produces, and markets medical diagnostic products for point-of-care testing. The fundamental concept behind the HemoCue products is to perform common blood tests at the point-of-care without sacrificing the accuracy and precision offered by a central clinical lab.  The HemoCue product line is sold in more than 75 countries through a highly effective organization consisting of independent distributor partners and subsidiaries.  HemoCue is a company that has developed a keen sensitivity for the needs of customers in primary health care settings and a focus on preventative health care opportunities. Given current global trends in these areas, we are convinced our products will continue to provide valuable opportunities on a world wide basis, for a long time to come.
