RRC SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

OVERVIEW

The RALS Remote Connect (RRC) document discusses the installation of the RRC software.

To download the latest Version of RRC, click the button below and download the Zip folder to your desktop.

DOWNLOAD

After clicking on the image above, download the Zip folder to your desktop:

  1. Click on the download image and 'save' the folder to a local drive.

  2. Unzip the folder using a zip compression tool like WinZip.

  3. From the START menu, select Run, browse to the “setup.exe” file for RRC (see Contents of the Installation Package) and run the program.

    1. NOTE: When executing the installation process on Windows Vista and Window 7, you should immediately get a window entitled “Open File – Security Warning.” and stating, “The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to continue?” If the “Name” is the “setup.exe” you just executed, select “Run”.

  4. A “Preparing to Install…” window will appear, followed by “Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for RALS Remote Connect”. Click “Next” on this window.

To determine which version of RRC you currently have:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > Select RALS Remote Connect

  • Navigate over to the 'Version' column to see what version you currently have

  • The Version in your RRC Status Screen, shown below, is not the same as Add / Remove Programs screen shown above – this is the version of the status screen not necessary the service. The version of the service should always be used to determine the installed version.

FUNCTIONALITY

RALS Remote Connect (RRC) comprises two software programs intended to run on a Microsoft Windows PC, making it an “RRC Download Workstation”. One of the programs, RRC.exe, is installed as a service that runs continually in the background whenever the Windows operating system is up and running.

The figure above illustrates the major components of the system in which the RRC operates and their interconnections.

The RRC service uses the PC’s serial or USB ports to communicate with a local Point-of-care (POC) instrument or device on the one side, and the PC’s Ethernet port on the other side to link the device via the network to a remote RALS server. The other program, RRC_Status.exe, allows the user to configure the RRC service and monitor its operation. (Configuration information is stored in a third file, RRC.ini).
